    Opinion from outside the UK

Previously, my A6 was fitted with Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2 with H speed index - and unfortunately those were better :( my purchase of Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3 in this case was determined by V speed index (max speed of 150 MPH) because recent winter are snowless and I wanted to enjoy the speeds but these tyres in a 350 HP car do only an average job, maybe because of XL marking. Braking on snow is rather average, on a dry but slightly damp road on small roundabouts they slide - what is more at low speed. The tyres are probably a balanced mixture of a relatively high max speed and the quality conditioned by tyre construction for greater speeds. Abrasion is difficult for me to assess because I only did a few thousand miles, I didn't have any collisions, but it's rather a result of moderate and careful driving in winter, because they it's hard to go crazy on them. Overall, if someone will drive calmly on them, they will definitely do well, but speed freaks should get something else. Read more Collapse

    Opinion from outside the UK

Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3 is great, but only on dry csurface. On wet it behaves correctly. But as soon as the snow fell and roads became slippery I felt unsafe. Especially on wet and slushy snow. I could notice poor traction only after driving through a snow-covered estate. It's even stranger due to the fact the tyre's not cheap and the brand is well-known around the world. In my previous car I had summer Michelins (sensational!). In winter I used Fuldas, despite it was a lower class tyre and the prices were lower! I tested Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3 on an empty square in front of a market. I drove circles, diameter of which was ca. 25 m, at speed of about 20 MPH and the car swerved about 3-4 m to the side. The maximum swerve on Fuldas in such conditions was 1 m. Also, the fact is that the cars were different. Fuldas were on a Mondeo MkIV and Michelins are on a Citroen C5 MkIII. However, such tests speak for themselves. Read more Collapse

    Opinion from outside the UK

I bought nnew Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3 tyres in the size 215/55R17 and I can say that they are rather designed for moderate driving. I don't drive too aggressively (it's impossible to do so on these tyres) sometimes ASR can switch on, especially on wet, not to mention during starting on snow. When braking, ABS also is likely to switch on, and the car is in pertfect technical condition and has never had an accident. The tyres are rather not suitable for more powerful cars, oppositely to the manufacturer's description. The tyre, however, grips well in the corners and absorbs bumps well, but doesn't do well in deep snow.. Now, I bought Michelin Alpin A4 to see how much they are worth. For more powerful cars I'd definitely recommend something else. Read more Collapse

    Opinion from outside the UK

Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3 is excellent when it comes to behaviour at high speed on the motorway. I often go abroad and the tyre drains water really well and behaves nicely on slush. If I have to find a drawback I have to say I live in the mountains and I never had any problems with grip, but sometimes when you go through mountain routes, the tyre is not enough. For residents of the mountain areas it's not recommended to buy them if the roads are bumpy and always covered in snow. For such conditions you can only get a good tyre with a decent tread. However, I would recommend it to drivers who cover large distances, as it behaves correctly and has low abrasion. Read more Collapse

    Opinion from outside the UK

Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3 grips the road very well on both dry and wet surface. In marshes and snow also OK. Great in winter conditions on the motorway, and in the mountains it can also do fine. However, I think that it wears off a bit too quickly. The second season was significantly worse than the first - especially on snow. It's not easy to change winter tyres every two seasons after 12 000 miles. Two seasons are a bit too little for a tyre at such price. Anyhow, Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3 is worth buying. Opinion from outside the UK

I won't write whether or not and how the tyre performs in winter, because in this price range and with normal driving there is not much of a difference between the manufacturers (I'm writing about driving in accordance with the law). However, when it comes to driving comfort, Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3 is second to none. It is also incredibly quiet and absorbs all bumps. The drawback is that it's already hard to buy, and PA4 has the compound changed so it'll probably lose its precedessor's comfort. Read more Collapse

    Opinion from outside the UK

I have a previous generation of this tyre, a Pilot Alipn PA2 on my E-Class and the older version is unfortunately better than the Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3. I think the problem is that "sunflower" component added to PA3. When it's cold it may allow to maintain the tyre's flexibility, but ... The tyre's just too "slippery" on dry. Read more Collapse

Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3 are sensational tyres, the car grips the road likt it was glued. They have definitely passed a sudden winter attack test. It's worth to pay extra for the XL version - you do not see any signs of wear. Read more Collapse
