Toyo R 888

I've been usingToyo R888 for a number of years and find them a great "all-round" semi slick tyre. My grades would be reflective of the type of tyre it is - I would say their wet weather performance is quite good for this type of tyre and can be used in the wet as long as there's not a lot of standing water. Outright dry grip is not as good as other semi slicks, but these tyres don't need warming up, whilst being stiffer than most road tyres, they ride well relative to other semi slicks which can be much stiffer and they also last ok. I selected the Toyo R888 as a replacement to the standard fitment of Yoko Advan 0048's which are the Lotus standard fit. The Yoko tyre is only available through a Lotus dealer and is much more expensive. Once the R888's are warm the grip level increases dramatically giving excellent adhesion with the road surface. They do lack rigidity compared to the Advan 0048's which have been specifically designed for the Lotus Exige's cornering ability. All in all an excellent replacement tyre and will continue to use the R888's. Read more Collapse

Toyo R 888 is a fantastic tyre for amateur sport. I am driving on it in races. If it comes to the grip on the dry, I will not write about it because it is obvious, but in my opinion there are many exagerrated comments about its behaviour in the wet. If there is a thin water layer and not a deep puddle - there is no better tyre in case of grip. Lately I have taken part in wet races and in heavy rain and in all conditions the tyre behaves perfectly. The tyre has hard sidewalls which protects the rim well. Read more Collapse

For me Toyo R 888 is simply outstanding! I did one race on them and I have never had tyres with such a grip :) Actually I put them on for test and they were lot better than Pirelli P6. The handling and grip is so amazing that I could not have imagined. On a tarmac covered by little sand or mud the grip is perfect and also in wet we have good control over the vehicle. I drove on Toyo R 888 mostly in the city plus two races and couple of hundred miles on the highway. On dry asphalt the grip is fantastic, much better than most premium tyres. On wet asphalt the grip is also good unless we drove into a deep puddle. You have to be careful in heavy rain. The treadwear is faster, but every tyre lasts shorter when racing. You will not buy better tracktyre tyre with road approval. The grip is simply outstanding, but earlier I thought that Toyo R 888 are worse tyres than Bridgestone or Goodyear, but they are simply not good as Toyo is. Very cool trackday tyre, but you can also drive on it in everyday life. The tyre is loud, however. On the track - better than Bridgestone, but the tread wears fast. I was on the road in heavy rain and it has to be really thick layer of water for this tyre to lose its grip. In normal wet asphalt the Toyo R 888 grip is also good. Tyre was used mainly for track events in multiple forms of weather on a clio 172. Excellent dry weather grip and very predictable when at the edge of there performance threshold. Superb dry day track tyre with lots of grip. I never used these on the road so no idea of their durability in road use but on track they wear very fast. After one track day they were down to the wear markers! These tyres allow you to really explore a cars handling & have a safety barrier doing it. Read more Collapse

Got a full set front and rear and transforms the handling of the car on track and fast road. Only driven to and from track and found it predictable on drying track and wet road without standing water. I'll definately buy them again. Read more Collapse

Excellent tyre for race / track day use, gives good grip ang consistent cornering feel. The operating window for this tyre is dry or damp pattern does not suit wet. Read more Collapse

very good, predictable tire for aggressive driving. Very good feeling car. Ingenious during braking at speeds of 160 + to nearly zero. Unfortunately, new tires purchased in March 2014 ended in July this year. 40 km of continuous burn-back on the track of words and 4 KJSy. On dry in the temp about 25 degrees stick super fly fast, but something for something slightly wet warmed too great, but I note, after a very wet I would not recommend, it is downright dangerous, especially on the road :), which I gave to the noise 3, because loud, but the sound would give 6, because a great effect - like a typical slick-u. As for me, great, yet I had no tyres stick so well on dry and wet ;) also excel very well I'd say even better than continental contact sport, and the only thing that can prevent a complete lack of grip at the entrance in a rut filled with water, but what expect from the tyre. Very specific tyre, loud, very hard and extremely splashing on cars coming from behind / big thick mist that effectively reduce the visibility / ;-) However, the car grip on these tyres is simply unbelievable! Awesome in the dry - nothing new here unless I say :-). the tyre is very stiff, not like track, in a wet behaves very fine, a large quantity of water is already worse. is loud, but the sound I like. on the tyre most of the corners does not exist - like riding in a straight line. Read more Collapse

I am driving the Focus RS Mk II. Such conduct not experienced on any tires. Keeping Incredible !!! Stable when braking from high speeds. I advise you to be careful on the wet;). Economics ...- forget;) To sum up: others already in the summer do not buy! Read more Collapse

The tyre works well on any kind of a trackday events. Rather, I would not recommend to drive on normal roads - its potential in dry conditions it is difficult to use in normal road traffic in the event of rain ahead of us in all, including babies. Read more Collapse

Typical sports tyres (including tyres put into service), dry sticks well after the warm, wet ride can, as long as there are no puddles. Lateral revelation, the serial brakes can not actually lock the wheels when braking. Read more Collapse
