Tyre details:

The Michelin Alpin A4 performs exceptionally well on ice, snow and in rain. It has been designed for difficult and variable winter weather conditions. Its directional tread pattern gives an optimal performance on wet surfaces by quickly dispersing water from under the tyre and minimising the risk of aquaplaning.

The tyre uses Full Active Tread technology, which improves braking performance, traction and driving stability on different types of surfaces. The innovative rubber compound used in its construction gives a safer driving experience whatever the weather, with improved grip and reduced braking distances, even on snowy and icy surfaces. The designers have ensured an optimal distribution of forces within the tyre. The tread therefore wears evenly and slowly, which means that the driver can enjoy the tyre's full range of specifications for its entire lifetime. The rubber compound used as the base for creating the model is noted for its lightness and very high strength, making the tyre resistant to mechanical damage and extending its service life. Lower rolling resistance thanks to the reduced weight of the tyre has helped limit fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The Michelin Alpin A4 is therefore an environmentally friendly and economical tyre to run. The tyre features the GREEN X logo on its side as a guarantee of its energy efficiency.

Michelin is one of the world's leading tyre manufacturers. The company specialises in the production of premium tyres noted for their optimal performance, excellent quality and maximum driver comfort. The brand produces tyres for passenger cars, motorcycles, lorries, bicycles, 4x4 vehicles, retro cars, aircraft, industrial and agricultural machinery and racing cars. The group owns brands such as: Kleber, Riken, Warrior, Taurus, Kormoran, Saimtyre, BFGoodrich, Euromaster, Recamic and Tigar.

    Opinion from outside the UK

Despite the fact that I have not done a lot of miles on the Michelin Alpin A4 tyres, I am not afraid of winter conditions at all. I can tell something about them. The lowest temperature I had an opportunity to drive on them in was -17℃ and the highest one was 17 ℃. The tyres are doing very well in low temperatures. In dry conditions they provide an excellent adhesion. In the higher temperature it is even better. My car goes uphill easily even if there is a really snowy hill (it goes easy even without ESP). I was positively surprised by braking in snow as ABS did not have to activate. The only type of surface I experienced a decrease in adhesion on is ice but it is rather a normal thing. There are no tyres that have a perfect grip on ice. The tread pattern is quite hard. It was designed for long-term use. The rolling resistance is reduced. The Michelin Alpin A4 tyres are extremely comfortable although their rubber compound is not so soft. My car drives smoothly even on uneven surfaces. The noise level is acceptable. In summary, I do recommend these tyres! Read more Collapse

The Michelin Alpin A4 tyres provide great performance, superb grip on wet roads. They are designed especially for winter conditions. They deserve all the positive reviews on the Internet. However, I would like to write a little bit about their durability. They are very durable. They were designed for intensive use. Their rubber compound is unique and innovative. Thanks to special components they are resistant to different kinds of mechanical damage. The Michelin Alpin A4 tyres are really long lasting. My previous Nokians ZG2 in the size 225/45R15 served me only for two seasons. I did no more than 40 thousand miles. Although the Michelin Alpin A4 costs quite a lot, it is a very good tyre due to its high durability. It is worth buying!!! I think that I will also purchase summer tyres from Michelin. Michelin Alipn A4 are a total disaster. I bought them last year to my Volvo S40 2.0D. Right after the purchase I noticed that they rumble in the speeds of 55-65MPH. I told Oponeo about that but I noticed that I will start a complaint procedure when I'll be putting my summer tyres on. I was using Nokians and they weren't as noisy as the Michelin Alpin A4. The seller was very suprised. He told me that they sold plenty of Michelin Alpin A4 and nobody was ocmplaining about them. When I finnaly made a complaint to Michelin they told me that they don't know why the tyres howl so much and they gave me a new set but it was the same. Even my girlfirend is making jokes about the sound of my tyres. Grip properties = poor. On wet road surface you can easily lose the grip. I dont recommend! Read more Collapse

Michelin Alpin A4 is very soft and when driving more than 50MPH a little noise is noticeable. My size is 165/70R14 and it is common that the same tyre but in different size behaves slightly different. Dont believe what people write here you have to test it on your own before you can state any opinion. In addition I ahve to say that I work in a fitting garage for 4 years right now and it is common thatn people expect the unexpected from the tyres. The best thing would be when the tyre could fit and balance itself :) imo I would not buy anything lower than mid-class tyre because the tyre is a basis of car usage. In my previous car I used Dunlop WinterSport M3 and I have to say that it was more stiff and had a lot more problems with driving on snow than Michelin Alpin A4. Read more Collapse

Michelin Alpin A4 is very noisy. This is my fourth set of brand new winter tyres and the loudest set that I ever had. On dry road there is a constant annoying noise. Drama. They are ok in winter conditions but I did not notice any huge difference between Michelin Alpin A4 and f.e Fulda Kristal Montero or Goodyear UG2. If somebody claims that these tyres are silent for him he probably drives diesel engine car or he has his radio on full volume :). I dont recommend them for small city cars because the noise can just make you crazy. In general they are ok but the noise destroys the driving comfort at all. They are very stably and they have no problems with driving on snow. To sum up Michelin Alpin A4 is a average driving properties and very noisy tyre. Read more Collapse

My friend and I have the same car, which is Volvo V70 of a third generation. We decided to buy the same tyres. Our choice was the Michelin Alpin A4. The choice was obvious as we wanted to test the winner of many tests. It was not cheap. Actually, it was a bit too expensive for me but. It is definitely better than my previous tyre. The Michelin Alpin A4 tyre cannot be compared with budget tyres like Accelera or Nexen. My colleague who purchased some Continental tyres is not satisfied with their quality. They do not provide a good grip. I cannot say the same thing about the Michelin Alipin A4. They are superb. The best tyres I have ever had. Once my friend drove a car with these tyres mounted on it, he decied to purchase the same set for his vehicle. Read more Collapse

Honestly speaking the Michelin Alpin A4 tyres are great. If you are hesitating between Michelin tyres and products of different top quality manufacturers I would like to assure that there is no better option than Michelin in this price range. I cannot say a bad word about the tyres. I noticed that a fuel consumption is lower. The Michelin Alpin A4 model provides an astonishing grip. Driving on highways is now a real pleasure. The tyres have never let me down, even in the most demanding weather conditions like snow, rain, mud, slush and ice. What is more, the price offered by Oponeo was really reasonable. I do recommend this product to all undecided drivers looking for the best quality. Read more Collapse

Michelin Alpin A4 is comparable to Dunlop Sport 3D and way much better than Fulda Kristal Montero ( I have Dunlops on my other car and Fuldas I've just changed because after 5 years of using they were useless, especialy on wet road surface). My Michelin Alpin A4 have just one strange thing - they howl very much in speeds of 75-80MPH, especialy when braking with the engine. The same sound anomalys I noticed in my E3A but in the speeds of 10-20MPH. I have to say that on any other tyres I did not notice such howling. Depiste the noise everything else is ok . Especialy that I have a feeling that my car is handling more easy. Michelin Alipn A4 olds the track like crazy. Recommend. Read more Collapse

The Michelin Alpin A4 tyres are superb. Amazing grip on fresh snow! Other vehicles could barely move in the same weather conditions. I did not expect these tyres to be so good. It was the first time I invested in a set of winter tyres. I used to purchase some second-hand tyres. I am fully satisfied with their quality. Driving uphill in heavy snow is not a problem for these Michelins. I could not do this on my previous tyres. They belonged to budget segment. Now I have premium product. Road safety is the most important for me and that is why I decided to purchase the Michelin Alpin A4. I will be happy to mount them back on my car next winter season. Read more Collapse

Living "out in the sticks" our roads get little attention in winter from the local councils. I started using these tyres on an older Jazz 5 years ago, bought an extra pair of wheels from a breakers yard so I can easily swap to these in December and back across at Easter. I take about a 2.5 mpg hit on fuel consumption but the grip is just amazing. I I work in Buckinghamshire where it is hilly, pulling out on heavily frosted roads doesn't involve any scrabbling for grip. This pair I bought recently is now on the front of my wife's Jazz, though she only drives a 1/4 of the distance I do she is amazed how the tyres make her feel less nervous. Read more Collapse

Usualy when I was about to purchase new tyres for my car I was een on price actually. I mean- good brand, good reviews and mid-range price. Usualy I was not satisfied because every year I spend the winter in Polish mountains (I bought a house there) therefore I need a good tyre. Last time when I was buying Michelin Alpin A4 I decided not to worry about price. It is the most expensive tyre avaliable on the market I think - but they are worth the price - 100% perfect. I have three cars so it is easy for me to compare. My car with Michelin Alpin A4 on it climbs every hill without problems. Michelin Alpin A4 is a perfect tyre. Read more Collapse

The Michelin Alpin A4 tyres are worth their price. You have to purchase them to find out how good they are. They are doing very well in snow, slush and other demanding winter conditions. They are very durable. I would like to recommend these tyres, especially to those who like to go a bit faster in a winter season. If your driving style is an aggressive one, the Michelin Alpin A4 tyres will be perfect for you. I purchased a set for my Renault Clio 2.0 16V and I was positively suprprised by their grip. In conclusion, these are the best tyres for a winter season. What is more, their price is really reasonable. Read more Collapse

I decided to purchase the Michelin Alpin A4 tyres. After half a year I removed these winter tyres from the wheels and I looked carefully at them. I did not notice any signs of wear. They still look like they were new. I made about 10.000 miles on them. Now I put summer tyres on my car. The Michelin A4 tyres are recommended to drivers who want to buy long-lasting tyres. They are great in such weather conditions as rain, snow, slush and mud. My vehicle is rather heavy but I have never experienced any problems with skidding. I think it the tyres are worth their price. I have done about 40.000 miles on these tyres and I must say they are doing well. Their grip is sensational. The Michelin Alpin A4 tyres are designed especially for driving in difficult weather conditions (dry surfaces, snow and slush, rainy weather). They are very quiet. Another advantage of these tyres is the fact that they are really hard wearing. If you drive just from time to time, they should last for several seasons. Do not pay attention to labels of the tyres. The labels provide unsignificant information. The Michelin Alpin A4 tyres are superb. I strongly recommend them. Read more Collapse

I drove thousands of miles on very different winter tyres (not less than 10 manufacturers). Michelin Alpin A4 is just great for me. I drove on them not a lot of miles for now (new car on new tyres), but I am an experienced driver and I did not expect such huge differences in every case. Braking on the snow, iced snow, wet tarmac etc. no restrictions. (ABS turns on when I brake suddenly and agressively). Same when moving off. From the traffic lights the car moves off as in sunny July afternoon. Michelin Alpin A4 are worth trying. Unfortunately, the price is very high. Read more Collapse

I did not make a huge mileage for now and there was no big snow as well, but imo these tyres work perfectly, like glued to the tarmac. it is obvious that when you brake suddenly the ABS will turn on but nevertheless Michelin Alpin A4 grip and drain the water very good. I had some doubts before I placed my order. However, now I can say that it was a good decision. The tyres are excellent. Driving is very comfortable on uneven surfaces. The Michelin Alpin A4 tyres are a bit louder than my summer tyres but it is rather an obvious phenomenon. I have to drive more before I rate their durability. All in all, I recommend these tyres. I was very disapointed with Michelin Alpin A4. I read a lot of reviews and tests and they seemed to be ok. But when the snow felt down it was a total disaster. This tyres should not be winter approved! Braking properties - zero. ABS and ASR is on all the time. I drove on may tyre in the past and none of them was as poor as Alpin A4 are. I bought new Pirelli Snow Control 2 and they were poor as well. I think that the new models are not sufficient. It is better to buy older and approved tyres rather than new ones. Read more Collapse

I bought Michelin Alpin A4 in October 2010. I was chosing between Ultra Grip 7 or Montenero. Michelin Alpin A4 is a new model but I trusted the brand and I decided to buy them. Tyres work very well no matter if the road is covered with snow or not. I have no problems when moving-off or braking and I cannot notice any visible tread loss. I am drivin responsibly and calm but sometimes I need to put the pedal to the metal when I am about to getlate to work ;) Michelin Alpin A4 is worth buying. recommend! Read more Collapse

Very good tyres. I bought a set of Michelin Alpin A4 tyres and I think they are one of the best tyres on the market. I decided to place my order with Oponeo because the tyres were about 20GBP cheaper than on different websites. My Ford S-Max is not a light vehicle but it drives like it was sticked to the road. The Michelin Alpin A4 tyres are characterized by a low rolling resistance. Their durability is high. I have done quite a lot of miles on them and there are absolutely no wear signs. Michelin Alpin A4 are good. I used Dębica Frigo 2 (175 wide) and I did not notice any huge differences. They slip on ice and it isn't strange at all. Michelin Alpin A4 work very fine on snow. This year the winter was not too strong either. Debica lost the grip after 4 years of using and I noticed that in the third season on wet tarmac in temperatures +3C i was scared to drive more than 50MPH. Michelin Alpin A4 must wait 3 years so I can say something more about them. Read more Collapse

Driving properties of Michelin Alpin A4 (braking, moving off) no big issues with that. However, that tyre is not perfect. The biggest drawback is the noise. After about 60 miles with the speed of 80MPH me and my wife start to feel a terrible headache. My wife said "Honey, our new car is about to brake down because in the summer there was much more silent inside" ... I do not recommend Michelin Alpin A4 - i regret that I spent so much money on Michelin Alpin A4. Read more Collapse

I bought the Michelin Alpin A4 205/55/R16 and I have to say that they are very good, but to be honest I was expecting a bit more. A little loud and they lose their grip on the snow while moving off. Advantages- no aquaplaning at all. i remember my first directional winter tyres from Debica and probably I would buy them again but now the qualities of all the tyres are getting lower. There aren't any perfect tyres, but Michelin Alpin A4 are not too bad either. Read more Collapse

Michelin Alpin A4 is a new product on the market. I had the opportunity to drive on them in snow. They are more than good. It does not matter if you have a FWD or RWD. Now I boughtMichelin Alipn A4 to my Passat and I'm testing it on wet and dry. I expected that the grip will be worse than in my summer tyres but suprisingly just from the begining they grip like crazy. What is more - I cannot hear any rolling noise of Michelin Alpin A4 in my car. Read more Collapse

I recommend Michelin Alpin A4 and I use them for the second season. I used many tyre brands lately and none of them was even close to Michelin Alpin A4. They are not too noisy (I do not agree with others) - I know louder tyres. They are soft, they perform very well on snowy roads. When the rolling temperature is -20C my car consumes 4,5l/100 km. It is not an advert of Michelin Alpin A4 but I am very pleased with them. Read more Collapse

winter tyre Great Universal, one of the best I've used. Utilized in the heavy van-ie drive axle behaves very well and above all predictable regardless of the surface. It is perhaps the best in the snow, but also the least ridden the roads. Bought by choice, but I aimed at Goodyear-y or Continentale.
