Pirelli Sottozero II

3PMSF

The tyre meets the European Union's requirements for winter tyres

Carries the 3PMSF (Three Peak Mountain Flake) symbol, which is awarded after the model in question has been thoroughly tested for snow grip.

Tyre details:

Excellent performance on wet and dry surfaces, reliability and optimal performance are just some of the assets of the Pirelli SottoZero 2. The model has been designed for sports cars and luxury cars with a high performance engine. It performs exceptionally well on both city roads and on longer journeys.

The tyre's asymmetric tread pattern which constitutes two independent parts ensures very good driveability and grip in any weather and on any surface. Wide grooves quickly disperse water, reducing the risk of aquaplaning and maintaining optimal grip. The compound used to produce the tyre is noted for its excellent flexibility in extreme temperatures. This increases the contact area between the tyre and the road surface, improving driver stability and comfort. The Pirelli SottoZero 2 also offers excellent performance on wet roads. Its optimised tread pattern guarantees track stability, both on straight roads and when going round corners and during dynamic manoeuvres. The tyre's design is resistant to mechanical damage, which is often the result of mounting the curb, for example. The tread's wear resistance is also due to the even distribution of forces, which has helped extend the model's lifetime. This means that the Pirelli SottoZero 2 offers its full performance specifications for its entire service life. The model is the ideal choice for demanding drivers who favour a sporty, dynamic style of driving and want to enjoy driving all year round.

Pirelli is an Italian group, particularly renowned for its tyres for fast, premium, sports cars. The brand produces premium tyres noted for their superb manufacturing quality, optimal performance and unbeatable user comfort. The company has been in operation since 1872 and has its headquarters in Milan. Pirelli produces tyres for passenger cars, vans, motorcycles, 4x4 vehicles, sports cars and lorries.

    Opinion from outside the UK

Hi everyone, I have decided to add some review since before I purchased the tyres I had read a lot about them on this website. Generally speaking, the Sotozero II tyres are very good. I got a quite powerful car (3.0l V6 300 horsepower) and I can say that these tyres give you a feeling of solid grip and safety in all weather conditions. They are really good in snow even though I have a front wheel drive and strong engine in my vehicle. It is a truly pleasure to drive a car on these tyres, especially on a motorway. I have crossed the whole Europe on these tyres driving really fast (sometimes faster than 125mph/h) and they have been doing well on a wet surface. What surprised me is how they look. The tread pattern is interesting - it looks a bit like a summer one but it has a lot of sipes, which are kind of straight, not the zigzag ones. I would like to recommed these tyres to everyone who drives fast. I am checking the tyres for wear regularly (at least once a month, usually after long trips) and I am fully satisfied with their quality. Read more Collapse

I have chosen the Pirelli SottoZero 2 after reading a few reviews. After doing five thousand miles I would like to recommend the tyres to everybody. First of all, they are very quiet. Secondly, they provide an astonishing grip in both dry and wet conditions. In the past I've had an opportunity to drive a car in snow with these tyres mounted and I was really surprised how good the handling was. Now I have the SottoZero 2 tyres in my car. According to the on-board computer my car uses about 0,5l more when compared with summer tyres but I think it's more connected with a low temperature issue. I will not rate the durability until I make some higher mileage. All in all, the tyres look good and I recommend them to everybody 'coz I think these are one of the best tyres in this price range. Great tyres. I have a Japanese car and was afraid that only Japanese tyres will be suitable for it in terms of driving sensations and comfort. However, the Pirelli Sottozero 2 tyres turned out to be tremendous. Italians manufactured the tyres that encourage to drive more aggressively in slippery, slushy and snowy road conditions. What's more, these tyres give you a possibility to drive really fast in corners. I'm pretty sure that if I used them on dry asphalt, the handling would be perfect as well. The rubber compound is quite hard but it seems that the tyres are rather hard wearing. If you do approximately 6,000-7,000 miles per winter season, the tyres should preserve their full performance for even five seasons. They are not too loud. Most probably I will go for these tyres again. Read more Collapse

    Opinion from outside the UK

I have changed my old winter tyres to the new Pirelli SottoZero II model in the size 205/55 R16. I live in a big city and even here I do encounter some problems with snow and slush in winter. However, the Pirelli SottoZero II tyres are defenitely different than cheap budget tyres I used to have. It's important not to drive too fast in bad weather conditions but having these tyres I feel safe even when I drive a bit faster than I should and I'm not afraid that my car will skid. All the roads outside urban areas are often unploughed and even there I have not noticed any problems - everytime my car drove exactly where I wanted. These are really good tyres available in a reasonable price taking into consideration the fact that the brand is premium. Read more Collapse

These tyres are amazing! It's noticable they are designed to actively react in the presence of wet asphalt and low temperatures. I have a feeling that the ADAC review is a bit underrated but it doesn't matter. My friends, who have been working in tyre business for many years, gave me advice on buying these tyres. I think that it's a good choice. The tyres are perfectly suitable for winter conditions such as snow and slush. The only drawback is the noise but it's rather typical of all winter tyres. Very good grip on fast bends. Car is glued to the road. Slighly louder than summer tyres (Pirelli P7) but this doesn't seem to bother me that much. I have given them a 'three' on snow because there was absolutely no snow for me to test them on - I simply don't know what their performance would be. I did not asses tyre appearance because this is completely irrelevant property of a tyre in my opinion. They need to be good and safe (which they are) and not neccessarily good looking:) Read more Collapse

These are very expensive, but, hopefully in time they will pay for themselves, both in performance & longevity. So far these Tyres have been Great. Unfortunately, I cannot rate the performance in Snow & Ice because this year we had no extreme conditions to test them on.I do, however, have every confidence they will perform well when called upon!! While most people were struggling with snow chains we drove up the alpine mountains with just these tyres providing all the grip we needed. In the UK they feel reassuringly grippy on icy and wet roads. Runflat - so work well with the BMW - and feels comfortable in the dry. Highly recommended! Read more Collapse

Jaguar XF 3.0 D 275 HP 245/45/18 This is an excellent winter tire situation, only ice is choking although it is much better than the summer. The problem is that the tire is "pure Winter" is that once this starts to look up the temperature and lose benefits, both in dry and wet conditions. For low of 7 ° C to 10-12 ° C are great and notes that are not so good when you get close to 20 lose a lot. So it is an inconvenience to those who live in temperate zones and we use the tires to go skiing or when we travel inside in colder areas, because in my place of residence 15 ° C are exceeded quite often during winter . However in less than 7 ° C are buenísmas. Rain 3 ° step on you in the middle of a curve and the car notes as sticks. In wet than their sisters Pzero unceremoniously. Dry subzero also have a really good performance and for those who do not normally drive in snow noted as tours, you brake and the car goes perfectly for your site gives a lot of confidence. The grip on newly fallen snow is also excellent. However it should not be trusted because in hard snow and especially in very hard snow or ice quickly lost capacity and you can spend an excellent grip as you go by loose snow to notice how you lose adherence to happen suddenly in those areas of hard snow or very lasts, the harder is the worse the behavior, that if much better than the summer. The length of time and will carry almost 20,000 well still has at least 10,000 km plus approx. They are comfortable and silent thing that worried me on wheels winter when I bought and I very pleasantly surprised. For all described or recommend purchase Read more Collapse

Unfortunately, not enough for me. I got in his car and 4x4 only saves me driving. I feel all the time while driving, that between the tyre and the asphalt is "oil stain". Impression is like a car driving on a thin wartwie water, oil, etc. I spoke with a colleague who has new tyres this year (I already have a season), and his impression is the same. If the drive is not driving I would not feel comfortable with. After this season, selling the tyres and all. PS All the time I drove to Michelinach and Conti, and recently I was not happy with Michelinów but now as I understand it is only Pierlki that Michelinka or Conti tyres are a lot better. I talked with several "specami" from the tyres and the Pirelli confirms each makes a good summer tyres but winter tyres have little experience. Read more Collapse

I bought these tyres in November with a new car in the living room. I needed a tyre that will provide me a good grip especially in urban conditions. It turned out that only properly retain the snow. Hockey complete lack of contact and control of the car. En masse from the lights on a frosty day took some time. The curves and the curves a little better. In slush tyre also does not handle very well. Usually, the problem caused pulling away from the place. Certainly do not buy more of these tyres. On these tires ride first winter (a season is still going on), so full evaluation would be possible after prolonged use. Nevertheless, the current run over a distance, ie a few thousand miles, confirms the high utility of these tires. I ride in a different area (including skiing) and I have not noticed any behavior which the tire would have a comment. Of course, on the route in winter conditions is not crazy, because the tire is not the guarantor of security, only, and may even, element for its increase. Good and hit purchase - would recommend. Sottesero I bought three cars at the same time, after a year in two cars popped bubbles - tire dump, of course, the purchase of new the same this year - the same as for newly listed tire. Such stories had the same tire Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow used in the SUV. As for the years Pirelli has never been problems for winter tires - warn pop bubbles. I will not elaborate too much. Tyre very pretty, yet functional. Great deal on dry (in contrast to tesrtu ADAC, who let us live), and the snow and slush is a real revelation. I did not feel any rupture grip or slip. If the car is quite awkward to the ground, and drove less frequented rural roads completely buried in fresh snow. So people, do not hesitate over the choice of tyres for the winter. Pirelli Sottozero 2 is a really high quality product. Read more Collapse

For this price is not worth it, as if winter tires yet WEAKNESSES sizeable snow conditions. Failed me in the snow. Very good in the wet. Relatively loud and fairly fast it consumes. For better-faster cars better and cheaper to buy Nokia WR (or Conti, Michelin, Goodyear - but too expensive), the average driving better and cheaper Sava Eskimo S3. I also had Uniroyal 66 (average / good) and Continental and Goodyear UG7 (both great but expensive). Read more Collapse

I remind everyone that my car, Subaru Legagy, has a few stability problems of his own, but with these tires this winter has been unstoppable. Well hold on the road and it does not matter if there is snow, slush, or dry roadway. In the field, not tested, probably for good reason:-) I am very happy with them, despite the larger volume than the summer. I do not mind. Perfect for a sports car. Read more Collapse
