Tyre details:

The Pirelli SottoZero Serie 3 is a winter tyre designed for mid-range and premium passenger cars. Thanks to its directional tread pattern, the model quickly disperses water, minimising the risk of aquaplaning and thus maintaining grip and safety, whatever the weather.

The compound used to make the tyre maintains excellent flexibility across a wide range of temperatures, increasing the contact surface between the tyre and the road, resulting in better driving stability. Optimal traction on snow is provided by the tyre tread with a wide central rib, fitted with blocks in the shape of double arrows. The 3D blades are responsible for good manoeuvrability on dry roads and excellent grip on snow. On wet roads, two longitudinal grooves quickly disperse water and improve driving precision. The rounded side of the tyre helps effectively disperse water and maintain stability when going round corners and during dynamic manoeuvres. Thanks to its innovative compound and optimised tread pattern, the model has a longer lifetime and is more resistant to mechanical damage. The designers of the Pirelli SottoZero Serie 3 have also achieved an even distribution of pressure on the tyre. This means that the tread wears evenly and the tyre offers its full performance specifications for its entire lifetime. The model is a very good solution for drivers who value both optimal performance and good driveability on any surface, as well as safety and comfort in difficult conditions.

Pirelli is an Italian tyre group that has been marketing its products since 1872. The company specialises in the production of tyres offering excellent performance that handle different conditions exceptionally well. Pirelli is particularly well known for the production of tyres for racing cars, which are known to drivers all over the world. Apart from its sporty tyres, the company also manufactures tyres for passenger cars, vans, motorcycles and 4x4 vehicles.

    Opinion from outside the UK

I was thinking for a long time before buying tyres for the winter, I chose these and I do not regret it. I was a little scared to buy lover quality tyres for a heavy car with a rear drive. It is true that there was no winter this year, but when it snowed, I especially traveled on unpaved roads, and I did not bury in even once, and I drove into more and more difficult corners. I am pleased with them. You know, you can fall into the back drive, but only when you want it. In the case of a quiet ride, nothing can happen. I had to turn off the ESP for turning back under the house because I could not throw my back and turn around 180 degrees on these tyres :) The tread looks like new, despite the fact that it was used mainly asphalted roads because the winter was weak. I see that I’m good good for a next few years. When I will be choosing summer tyres, for sure I’ll choose Pirelli. I recommend it to all :) Read more Collapse

At first glance, you can see that the tyres are high quality which was also noticed by the mechanic who installed them. If someone wants to experience how much difference in grip the winter tyres can give, then I recommend these ones. The wet and dry road are indistinguishable, the snow blot is slightly noticeable. Driving on the broken snow is just a bit worse, you can feel that the tyres are working. The worst performance is on the clayey blotter – the tyres deal with it, but the difference compared to summer tyres is minimal. The main defect of the tyres is their volume. I must admit that I did not appreciate how loud the tyres can be. In addition to the classic noise, which is noticeably more intense, there is also an additional, much higher sound, which I can only describe as a strong wind that is comparable to a swist. I bought the Pirelli SottoZero 3 tyres recently, but I can already confirm that they are really fantastic! I have BMW with 218hp engine and the tyres were tested with "H" speed index which have limit up to 130mph. I wanted to test their survivability and noise, so I speeded up to 149mph and they have passed this test. The noise - tyres are quiet, great performance. Grip - yet I didn't have the situation in which I could check the full grip, but the dynamic drive is not a problem for these tyres. These are the best winter tyres I have ever had. If it comes to the survivability, I have them for a short period of time to say something about it, but I certainly let you know when I make more miles. The price is excellent. Just to praise Oponeo, I would like to underline the great service and the time of delivery. Read more Collapse

Very impressed with the Sottozero 3, having used Nokian and Verdestein winters I was a little wary of moving to pirelli but these were a great price and had good reviews. Wasn't sure how effective they would be on a 245 18 as my previous vehicles have had a far narrower 16 inch wheel. Got caught out on a very steep hill after a heavy snow shower one evening. The tyre bit through and would only slip on excessive throttle. No other 2WD vehicles made it up the hill. Very quiet on the motorway and no noticeable difference with the MPG. Excellent in the dry, had better in the wet but certainly no real issues. Would highly recommend if you can get them at the right price. Can't comment on wear yet but certainly doesn't seem excessive. Read more Collapse

In the size 245/40R19 the run flat version is available only in 2 winter tyre models on the market. Falken HS 449 and Pirelli Sotozero 3 (there is also the older version of the second model). The first season I had Falkens (because at the time of picking up the car only those were available), and now I had to buy new tyres, because the Falkenes cracked from the inside (small cracks in all 4 tyres through which the air slowly escaped - shock !!!). After mounting the Pirelli tyres the difference is colossal on the plus. Incomparably quieter, great in all conditions. I recommend them to everyone who can afford them :-) Read more Collapse

As a user of SottoZero Series I can say that Pirelli SottoZero 3 is a worthy successor od SottoZero 2. It's performance on the snow and ice is perfect! This year winter was short, but it was full of different atmospheric conditions from ice and wet snow to mud. In every condition Pirelli passed the test, but is it something new for the user of Sotto Zero series? Of course not. The new Sotto Zero 3 is way better than Sotto Zero 2, so this explains everything. Sotto Zero 2 was way better than other tyres, so just check yourself what Sotto Zero 3 is capable of. This is another Pirelli that I use in winter. Previously in the VW Psssata B6 2.0 TDI, and now in Volvo S80. In both cases the tyre is brilliant for winter and very quiet. If you accept the price (when paying a did feel a little regret...) the driving on these tyres will be safe and predictable. I am not a specialist, but an ordinary driver without taking a risks. I had in my use several cars and various winter tyres. I rate Pirelli tyres the highest (disappointed with expensive and poor GoodYear UG7). Best Regards Artur Read more Collapse

During one month I compared and checked the Goodyer UG8 (very good tyres, surprise) and Dunlop winter 4D, on which I traveled almost 2 years. Pirelli is a revelation compared to them, I did not think that there could be such a difference. With a 211 hp engine, these tyres give the possibility to move on snow without any combination. The tyres are nominally louder and in practice have a different rolling sound, but not quite louder. Really the best car tyres for me, tyres with more power. Read more Collapse

I have fitted Pirelli SottoZero 3 255/45R19 tyres in winter 2014. Until March I have made 8000 miles and I am really satisfied with them. There were no problems with balancing and I do not feel any vibrations while using them. The wet grip is also fantastic. It is hard to assess performance on snow and ice, because 2014/2015 winter was really nice for drivers. The car drives perfectly and there is no need to correct the the way of driving in turns. The ABS was activated only once. Read more Collapse

Over five years, I have driven more than 31,000 miles on assessed tyres in various often extreme conditions. Last season was used both in summer at temperatures above 30 degrees and in winter. Thus, after the end of the exploitation cycle - 4mm tread - I can summarize these tyres reasonably. If you want to invest in comfort and safety, it will be a good choice. Precise traction is standard, moderate consumption as an advantage. I will buy them again. Read more Collapse

Pirelli SottoZero 3 bought in November 2013 and they have more than 15000 miles for sure. I am driving on British highways. The tread wear is minor and there is a lack of damage while driving on some holes on the streets. The wet grip is perfect and the tyres have great performances in various conditions and on various surfaces. There was also funny situation when other drivers couldn't drive up the slope, while I did it with ease. Read more Collapse

Since fitting these winter tyres (Nov 2015) we have had little snow but when it did snow, the tyres performed really well. The C-Class usually struggled even in shallow snow with Dunlop summer tyres but there was no problem with these Pirellis. There doesn't seem to be any compromise in performance or fuel economy and there is no noticeable increase in tyre noise. I would definitely buy again. Read more Collapse

The "good" rating awarded in the "snow and slush" category is caused solely by the lack of sufficient driving opportunities under the aforementioned conditions (no option - I do not judge). Particularly noteworthy is the low noise emission while driving (even with speeds in the range of 87- 100 mph) + an interesting tread design (category 4 in rating of tyres). Read more Collapse

Good all round winter tyre - recommended by Subaru. Grips well on snow and ice (just don't expect miracles!), and still handles well when things warm up and dry out - just what's needed in our changeable British climate. As quiet and comfortable as the standard summer tyres supplied on the new car (Bridgestone Dueler). Read more Collapse

Never got to test their ability in snow & slush due to yet another mild winter, but performed very well in cold weather, wet or dry. My car normally spins the rear wheels very easily in cold/wet conditions when running on summer tyres, but no such issues with the Sotto Zero 3, just loads of grip. Read more Collapse
