Nankang AS 1

Nankang AS 1 is a tyre designed for daily driving. It will perform excellent on both dry and wet surfaces. It is equipped with a modern asymmetric tread that ensures good water drainage and a high level of grip. Efficient drainage of water also influences the fact that the risk of aquaplaning is considerably reduced, and the drive becomes more confident and safe. The tread, consisting of two sections, is responsible not only for the performance during rain. Its internal side includes strips with serrated edges and a central circumferential notch. It ensures a good transmission of wheel movements onto the road, also during a drive on uneven surfaces.

Skid protection is provided by the arched grooves located in the external section of the tyre, as well as by the wide circumferential channels. The model is made of a modern rubber mixture that is additionally enriched with silica compounds. This makes it lightweight and durable which translates into better driving properties of Nankang AS 1. The manufacturer has also improved the tyre’s resistance to mechanical damage, meaning its life has been extended. The tread wears evenly, so the model guarantees full performance over its life, without worrying about a gradual loss of driving parameters. Additionally, driving with Nankang AS 1 is more comfortable due to a lower level of noise, which could be achieved thanks to the tread design. It dampens the sounds emitted by Nankang AS 1 during operation.

Nankang

Nankang is a brand from Taiwan which specialises in the manufacture of economy-class tyres which combine a reasonable price with versatile performance. The company's history dates back to the 1930s, when they started to build the first rubber production plants in Taiwan. However, the brand itself was created at the beginning of the 1950s and very soon gained the recognition and trust of customers. At the beginning, the tyres were bought by Asian drivers, and later on the company started to expand into other countries. Currently their tyres are available in over 100 countries worldwide.

AMAZING! Given that I am not a pilot but a regular user of the car with these tyres (I changed only two during that time: those in front) the car holds the road well. In both dry and wet conditions for Nankang AS 1 I haven’t noticed a lot differences: a tad bit less cornering grip in the wet, but I had to force my hand for it to slightly lose its grip, however, I immediately recovered. Taking curves absolutely precise and immediate steering response to stress. I could not try them on snow as it hasn’t snowed yet :) and I cannot comment on the durability, as I have them only for short period of time. Overall, I can only express absolutely positive opinion. I will complete the set with the two rear tyres and then purchase those tyres again! The price is definitely excelled. The tyres in question are mounted on a Peugeot 207 1.6 HDi 110CV. Finally, I wish to point out that they are made in China (along with almost all the products that come to us) although the company Nankang, one of the oldest manufacturers of tyres, is based in Taiwan. I bought those tyres, because I needed cheap set for the summer quickly, and I didn’t want to spend money on used rubber. I was debating with myself if it wasn’t too risky , but it did not disappoint. I changed size 165/70R13 5j13 to 195/40R17 7j17. There is a big difference in grip and drive, of course, a big plus. Growth burning too big not noticed. The car less responsive now to some micro-inequalities which at 13inch could be clearly felt. The faster cornering is not a problem, the tyres stick well to less demanding turns, but on sharp bends I felt a slight loss of traction, in the dry conditions. In the wet conditions, they behave very well, the loss of grip occurs after heavy braking but only when speed was almost completely gone. The car without electronic support, but on these tyres easy to master. Overall, for this money, Nankang AS 1 recommendable. Read more Collapse

Car as standard came with high premium rated tyres fitted,I've worked in the tyre game for several years,I spent approx 15 years in that trade. My first opinion was to try and get new premium tyres at a good price, but over the years such tyres as nankang have made leaps and bounds in the tyre manufacturing process,as with all Motorsport teams now they find it very difficult to separate the differences of performance and agility from their race tyres, this engineering and processes are being handed down to us the average user of a product they test, albeit some say all you pay for is the the name in many cases this is true, but in my opinion such tyres as nankangs as1 are a very competitive product that do and will carry on doing showing their big cousins up in a world that requires a decent tyre of great value that helps the world go round... Opinion from outside the UK

I bought new set of Nankangs AS1 for my BMW E38 after I had very bad experience with tyres from well-known brands. Size: 2x 235/50R18 and 255/45R18 and honestly I can say that the only thing that i regret atm is that I bought Nankangs that late.... New, fresh rubber causes that the tyres grip very well to the dry tarmac. I tested them in corners in speeds of 100MPH but it makes no impression on Nankangs. Before buying Nankangs I double-checked if these tyres are worth my risk... I can trully say that there is nothing to fear of. They are very easy to balance. Many people say that it is imposible to buy better tyres in that price. Nankang company produces tyres for almost half of a century so they have quite big experience. I was a bit affraid that they will be to noisy, but no huge noise is being generated by them. I highly recomend them. Read more Collapse

For 170ps is enough, I have the 370nM and sometimes on second gear I have the impression as if it’s on the verge of losing its grip. In dry conditions there’s no difference between Nankang AS 1 and the more expensive competitors (previous I had PZero). They do not wear so quickly which is a plus. In the rain you can easily go on to the 150km/h. If I want to go faster, I need to focus because sometimes slight loss of control of the car can happen. The tyre looks nicely on the rim. I had several emergency braking from 210km/h and was positively surprised. If someone wants to go faster than 150km/h regardless of the wet conditions they might reconsider buying those tyres, but if ride up to 150km/h is sufficient, they can go ahead and buy. I highly recommend those tyres to all. I already have a second set of tyres (both from Oponeo) and do not complain. In this case, the proportion of the price to quality is very good. Nankang AS 1 works really well during dynamic driving. I do not judge the economy, rolling resistance and durability because for me it is irrelevant. With my engine (2.5 V6 194km) tyres from the front axles durable less than 2 seasons and I am happy because till the end the tread was doing very well. Appearance of the tyres, and particularly their positioning on the rim will probably appeal to tunning fans, mainly by the trapezoid shape of the tyre. Let me add that with me they are fitted on the 8J rim. Read more Collapse

since now I used Pirelli PZero - imo one of the best tyres avaliable on the market. The issue was that they rubbed off quickly and they were very expensive. Nankang for me behaves very well. Tyres grip very well ini corners. They are suprisingly silent even in comparison to Pirellis. I didn't check them professionally in the corners so I don't know their grip limit. Pirelli signaled it with rising squeak. For me it is to early to say anything about the atriction. In general, I am very satisfied and I consider buying them one more time. The price\quality ratio is just brilliant. I wanted to have cheaper tyres but silent and I have them right now and I'm satisfied. Read more Collapse

As for the mid-range tyres are good. Caused no problems, stick well to dry surfaces, on wet however, with aggressive driving, they sporadically skid in the corners. As for middle class tyres Nankang AS 1 are recommendable. They do okay whether in the city or on highways. I don’t see any significant wear of tread. I don’t see the big advantages when it comes to economics driving, but I also can’t see any minuses. They are neither too loud nor super-quiet, but do not make much noise. But they look pretty cool. There were no problems with balancing. You can tell that they are quite cheap and pretty good so with a clear conscience I recommend. Read more Collapse

I am a happy owner of Nankang AS1. I was searching for my tires for quite a long time after I decided to buy Nankangs. Im very pleased. Tyre looks very attractive. It has a very nice asyetric tread and the rim protector. I had no problems with balancing them. These tyres are very silent. they behave well in every condition even at high speeds. Very comfortable. I cannot say anything about the tread durability, but the rubber looks realy tough. I wear them on my Audi A3 in the size of 225/45R17. It is hard to find anything better in that price. I bought 2 pieces because I broke my Dunlops on Ukraine. I bought next 2 in Poland. They are brilliant on dry road surface. Everything was ok and my Espace was probably satisfied as well :) They are resistant to bad, cheesy roads. Silent and quite fancy looking. The dream comes to an end if the rain falls down. They skid while moving-off even to the 3rd gear. braking below my requirements. Aquaplaning- average. Till 80MPH you cannot fell that they lose grip. Read more Collapse
