The Pirelli SottoZero is a winter tyre designed for premium passenger cars with a high performance engine. The innovative compound used to make the tyre is noted for its excellent flexibility, giving the model increased contact with the ground and better grip in any weather and on any surface.

The tyre features an asymmetric tread pattern with two independent parts to ensure optimal performance during the winter season. The outer part of the tread is responsible for traction on wet roads. Its deep and wide circumferential grooves with a variable profile have a large capacity and help quickly and effectively disperse water from under the front of the tyre. This helps minimise the risk of aquaplaning and improves driver safety. Massive blocks in the shoulder area are responsible for stability when negotiating corners and during dynamic manoeuvres. The design of the Pirelli SottoZero has been stiffened to ensure a fast response to sudden steering movements, which has a positive impact on accurate track stability. The internal part of the tread is responsible for shorter braking distances on ice, snow and mud, as well as grip in extreme weather conditions. The tyre ensures acoustic comfort thanks to its special grooves and optimised tread pattern. Sounds and vibrations emitted whilst driving on Pirelli SottoZero tyres are quickly muffled, which means that the driver and passengers can enjoy a quiet and comfortable driving experience. This model is the perfect solution for demanding drivers looking for a tyre that offers excellent performance, whatever the weather.

Pirelli is an Italian group that has been producing tyres since 1872. The company is currently the world's 5th largest tyre manufacturer in terms of sales. Pirelli produces tyres for passenger cars, motorcycles, vans, lorries and 4x4 vehicles, as well as the sporty tyres that the Italian company is especially renowned for. Pirelli has its headquarters in Milan.

    Opinion from outside the UK

I bought the tyres in December, and the review is being written in the spring. Winter was as we have seen. There was snow, ice, rain and it also was dry with temperatures like 15 degrees. In all conditions the car's behaviour was predictable. Sensational in deep snow, on ice ABS was switching on but the car kept the driving direction and could be controlled. If you overcharge and feel that one of the axles starts to swerve, it is enough to slow down and the tyres immediately grip back. When you get a feeling of it, you are able to drive safely and much faster than other road users, which is why driving in winter ha been giving me great pleasure. On warm and dry pavement the tyres can hum a bit at more than 55 MPH but it is not bothersome. After 7000 miles the tyres look like new, they only lost their "spikes". Pirelli SottoZero are my first winter tyres, so I have nothing to compare them with, but seeing the behaviour of other cars in the same conditions, I have to admit that most of the cars had no chance with mine. In the previous car I used summer tyres all year round and I know I won't do it again. I won't endanger my family's life any more. Pirelli SottoZero are great tyres which I recommend to everyone! My assessment is not an assessment, but rather a kind of reaction because I feel dizzy when I read some of the reviews - I only did about 350 miles on them but when I read that on slippery or wet surfaces they're useless, then I thinkt that anyone who writes such a review either is not a driver, or they simply do not have them. AS for now, I have testem them in light conditions, I drive quite aggressively and I can say they are sensational, I had many different tyres but Pirelli SottoZero even at temperatures of 10 degrees above zero, no matter if it's wet or dry, are a hundred times better than Uniroyal Rallye 550, and they are really good... I'll write a new review after the winter, but as for now in the rain and on dry, no matter if it's 1 degree below zero or +10 - Pirelli SottoZero are one of the best. Read more Collapse

    Opinion from outside the UK

I think the purchase of Pirelli SottoZero was a legitimate expense, I was shocked after last season, after fitting new tires in the autumn still in summer-like conditions they behaved better, driving on dry was sensational - in the corners after a slight turn of the wheel the tyres just made the car go in the desired direction - it's also because of sports suspension and a quattro drive. It is also because the tyres are Pirellis. On snow and ice they're also brilliant, quattro accelerates better than brakes in heavier conditions. It's nothing special when braking on ice, but 9it's not a suprise - 1,7 T under the car's hood speaks for itself, However, Pirelli SottoZero still stand out before its competitors, it's very stable at higher speeds - 120 MPH on these winter tyres is nothing uncommon. Opinion from outside the UK

I fell in love with these tyres the day I bought them. So far, I have used various winter tyres fom many well-known companies but I won't be offending them... however maybe I should. Pirelli SottoZero are great both on snow and slush and in other conditions, however I recommend them only to people who have powerful and fast cars and at the same time they like to use their power, because the tyres have one quite strange feature - the faster and more aggressive you go, the better they behave; the more you seem to risk, the more they stick to the road - for me, it's sensational. But if someone drives slowly and carefully in winter, it's better they bought something cheaper. Read more Collapse

    Opinion from outside the UK

After fitting the tyres to a 2007 Audi A4, it turned out the vehicle swerves to the right. After a full diagnosis of the authorized Audi service, which claimed that the wheel alignment is correct, the car didn't suffer from an accident (so there's no possibility that something's crooked), service technicians came to the conclusion that the factor which causes the problem are my new "super tyres" which were Pirelli SottoZero. A warranty procedure of the manufacturer is a total disaster. The result of my careful purchase is the financial loss connected to servicing at Audi service, costs of experts and a lot of wasted time. I do not recommend buying these tyres. Read more Collapse

I bought these tyres basing the reviews and I was not disappointed with the purchase. I am delighted. I don't drive a lot (about 25 thousand miles a year) but so far these are the best winter tyres I've been using.Previously, I had Fuldas (total failure), Michelins, Goodyears, but Pirelli SottoZero turned out to be a bullseye. I don't assess the look of the tyres because it's not rather important (at least for me) but it's about how they behave in winter conditions. I drive a mixed route every day (a bit of city driving, a bit of route and a bit of terrain driving), and so far I had no problems. They are excellent on snow. I definitely recommend. These tyres are great, and I have nothing to complain about, nothing better has been invenet for powerful cars so far, they are simply great. I snowborad a lot, and due to the fact Pirelli SottoZero were tested in Austrian and Polish mountains, they behave sensationally, when I use them in my city I feel like I'm using summer tyres. Moreover, If someone is interested in motorization, then they know that Pirelli tyres did the best in tests of sports cars like Lamborghini out of all top-brand tyres, and Italian police also uses Pirellis in their chase cars - not only because they look nice. Opinion from outside the UK

Generally speaking, I'm satisfied with the purchase of Pirelli SottoZero tyres. Assessments of behaviour on ice, rolling resistance and driving comfort are very subjective. In comparison with the tyres I previously used on other cars (Debica Frigo and Kleber Winter) I noticed a significant improvement in driving on water and snow - that is what I expected. After two seasons and about 11 000 miles driven I didn't notice any excessive wear, I think it will be safe to do another 16 - 18 thousand miles. I won't buy them again - but only because they'll get replaced with a newer model. Read more Collapse

Pirelli SottoZero is the best winter tyre in the world. If anyone says otherwise, then I do not know why - either they have a broken car or they don't know how to drive or have broken ABS, etc. I'm not a Sunday driver and I can definitely say that other manufacturers should learn from Pirelli. They are simply perfect. My friend also has an Alfa Romeo - a GTA with 250 HP engine and a front-wheel drive. I recommended Pirelli SottoZero and he went crazy about them - he said he can use the car's full power in winter again. Pirelli SottoZero is the tyre number one! Read more Collapse

I often travel abroad and drive in the mountain areas and in the city - and the tyres are amazing! Previously I used Michelin, Goodyear and Nokian tyres, and now I can honestly say I recommendthem. I have been using Pirelli tyres for 3 years now and I've done them over 50 000 miles on them. For summer I have Pirelli P6, for winter I use Pirelli SottoZero. Both models are excellent. So far, no other tyre provided me with such good grip on the road. Driving comfort is also very good. The tyres are quiet, durable and gripo the surface really well! Read more Collapse

Pirelli SottoZero are simply sensational. They are amazing, I had a lot of winter tyres and Pirelli SottoZero beat all the tyres when it comes to performance - excellent on dry, great on wet and sensational on snow! I paid 35 pounds/tyre in the size 195/65R15 - so not much more than for Sava S3... I don't know where do those weird opinions come from - maybe such people think that grip on a dry road in winter is the same as in summer (and then ditch pretty fast) - even a tyre made at NASA won't replace common sense and experience in winter! Opinion from outside the UK

Pirelli SottoZero is almost a perfect tyre. Noise level and rolling resistance is similar to that of summer tyres. I virtually didn't see any increase in fuel consumption when compared to summer tyres. Abrasion is hard for me to assess as for now (too short use period). On snow and ice behaves exemplarily (of course it slips on ice as every tyre does). Quite a serious drawback is its behaviour on wet. I do not have a heavy foot, but when starting on wet, ASR switches on quite often. Read more Collapse

Pirelli SottoZero performs well on dry and on wet, on the snow they are, on the ice it isn't miraculous but it allows to maintain the direction of driving, of course without any speeding. Braking on ice combined with ABS is safe. Those who drive a few seasons on winter tyres know that winter ones are no substitute for common sense and experience. Fuel consumption seems to have increased a bit, but it's a small price for safety! Read more Collapse

My purchase of Pirelli SottoZero was dictated by good reviews of this tyre. The price doesn't reflect the tyre's quality (except for appearance). It behaves the worst on snow (every now and then ABS switches on - a disaster) you fell as if you were driving on ice. I had a bit of concern about using such a low profile in winter. However, the tyres make up for sensing bumps with their lateral grip and traction even in deep snow. The tire tested on the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S (W212) 585KM. I drove mostly in the mountains in the Czech Republic, Austria and Switzerland. In general tire very low quality which is confirmed on professional balancers (balancing the road test), "stated uneven tire tire radial stiffness" what was the cause of a very high-profile tires and steering wheel vibration coming from the wheels.
